Movie Preview: Zombieland

It's been awhile since we've had any movie related crap, so here goes. I know some promises were made in the past for upcoming reviews but Shutter Island got pushed back at the last minute, I just didn't go see The Final Destination, and Halloween 2 was out of the theater faster than Kanye West bum rushed the stage on Taylor swift. Man he's a douche. Douche of the Year. Anyway, Zombieland releases this Friday, October 2, and it looks freakin' amazing. I know it's not going to win any awards but that doesn't mean it wont be one of the best movies of the year. Don't let the stuffy movie jerks ruin it for us. I don't even know that much about it other than it's got Woody Harrelson in it, I love him in King Pin, and the "Babe of the Month" from Superbad (Emma Stone). Zombieland seems like an action movie that doesn't take it self too seriously. Sort of like a Shaun of the Dead, which is one of the best movies ever. Or even like a Bruce Campbell flick. Bubba Ho Tep, Army of Darkness. Now we're talkin'. For me this movie couldn't come at a better time. It's almost Halloween and we are about to get bombarded with Oscar contending movies (boring). It hopefully won't suck. If I'm not feeling too lazy this weekend I'll have a review for it. Cheers.

-This post is a little tired of movies/people that take themselves too seriously.

Quickie: Analog Jacket

I talked before about how much we love everything about Analog. This is the Analog Gamma jacket and its one of my favorites this season. The color is light blue, it features 10,000mm waterproofing and 60g polyfill insulation and 100% awesomeness. Priced at $179.99 this jacket may increase your chances of getting some action. I hope it helps mine.

Skate Gear

I love to skateboard. I've loved it for as long as I can remember. I mean we're talking since 1992 when I was in the second grade. These days I'm still a decent skater I guess. I can kickflip and crooked grind like everyone else and on a good day when the stars align just right, I can even crack a fakie 360flip. It was around '95-'96 when it came time to get a new board and ditch my beat Evol, which I had gotten after my Powell-Peralta, I was ready for an Alien Workshop. I loved their designs. I thought the alien on all the boards was freakin' awesome. So I got the board with an alien priest on it. When I broke it I moved on to one of my all time favorites; The Mantis. It was a slick. Remember those? I loved the slick bottom back then. I could roll up and boardslide any curb in Annandale with ease. In 1998 I moved on from Alien Workshop. I had found Shorty's with everyone else. But it wasn't Alien Workshop's fault. It was mine. And while I loved my time riding Shorty's boards I would still check up on the Alien Workshop boards. Like when you break up with someone but you still Facebook stalk them to see what they are doing. You know exactly what I'm talking about too. You creeper. Well with the departure of Peter Smolik and Chad Muska, the Shorty's empire crumbled. I decided to go back to Alien Workshop. I was ready. She accepted me with open arms. We were in love again. I never looked back. The four boards pictured up top are just amazing. I even love the classic Spectrum board with the three aliens. The Moonpop board even has carbon fiber in it. The graphics are on another level when compared to the other skate companies. Except for maybe Habitat, Alien Workshop's sister brand which was started in 2000. Do yourself a favor and check out the best boards for quality and design in skateboarding. They make bangin' shirts too. I'll be there.

Shoe Game, (Kind Of) Boot Game?

This boot is the 2010 Burton Grail. It is by far my favorite boot out of this year's Burton catalog. It's priced at $329.99 (ouch) but I say it's worth it. These are great boots for the park and would probably work well for some freeride as well. They have a supprt rating of 6 and even feature an airbag for cushining. I'm kind of old school so I'm a big fan of the traditional lacing over the speed zone stuff. I just love the color and the pattern. That's right the color. I'm man enough to admit it. I like a little purple in my diet. I love these boots so much, if it were socially acceptable, I would totally wear these on the street. I like them that much.

Price Wars: Part 2

Touche Nintendo. Touche. As if almost on que Nintendo drops the price of the Wii to $199.99 to compete with the new PS3 price of $299.99. To me, I just still feel it's too much. What about $174.99. I mean it's a glorified Game Cube for cryin' out loud. Man, I do want to apologize for all of the Nintendo hate. I just get so boiled up about the whole thing. I'm salty like a pretzel at the mall. I had so much hope and expectation for the Wii. Remember when it was called the Revolution? I was retarded enough that I actually thought it was really going to change video games. I thought it might take them to an amazing place that I could have never imagined. I remember one of my first experiences with video games. I had a friend who had a Sega Master System. We played Shinobi. I just remembered thinking how much fun it was and how much more awesome it was going to get. He also had the Light Phaser. Come to think of it. Isn't that all the Wiimote is? A glorified Light Phaser. So really all Nintendo has done has revolutionized games for the worse by repackaging a 20-plus year old experience in a nice shiny case. Is what you use the Wii for now really that much different than the Master System with the Phaser? What do you use your Wii for? I'm bummed it didn't change for the better. The price drop should make for an interesting holiday season. Nintendo will come out on top. I'm done. I'm done.

-I promise no more Nintendo hate for awhile.

-Peace.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope

When the new Star Ocean game was announced I was very excited to say the least. Then when I heard it was being released on the Xbox 360 instead of a Sony platform I was pretty bummed out. As a fan of the series since the second game; Star Ocean: The Second Story, which was the first game to be released in America, I felt like Square-Enix was basically giving me the finger. So it was released in the States on the 360 and I don't think anyone even played it. Square-Enix, my love, had betrayed me. My heart was broken. I moved on. But then Square-Enix called me on the phone. They wouldn't stop sending me text messages. The same company that I told everyone was a bimbo, wanted to get back together. Their peace offering? Star Ocean: The Last Hope International on PS3. Well I said, "Of course I'll take you back," and "No, I never called you a bimbo". Everyone let us celebrate. Now people that might have actually played the first few games in the series will get a chance at this one. So what's the "International" you might ask. In Japan, many games get released again as they were released in America. So the Japanese get an English voice track and some minor gameplay changes. Man, the Japanese game companies really like milking their fans as much as possible. But I guess the fans love it or they wouldn't do it, right? And I know what you're thinking. Why would they want an English voice track? Come on. The voice work these days isn't that bad. Maybe they think the original Japaese voice tack sucks. Think on that for a moment. Anyway, it's scheduled for release on this side of the Globe on February 10, 2010. Oh, and one more thing. Longtime series producer Yoshinori Yamagishi says this is it. He feels he has accomplished everything he set out to do with the series. So let us raise a PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon) and hope this one goes out with a bang.

-This post is noticing a strong theme of betrayal.

Price Wars

I was thinking about video games a little today... okay a lot actually, big shocker, and I was thinking about how Sony has lowered the price of the PS3. I mean it's $299 now and it's slimmed down and even sexier. I want a new one and I don't even need it. I was thinking about how it is only 50 bucks more than the Wii and it does so much more too. I mean it also plays Blu-rays, the games are bigger and better. But maybe the Wii is worth the $249 price tag. I mean we all know how awesome the Wii Fit is... oh, sorry I just vomited in my mouth a little, which is an extra 90 bones. For me it's not worth it. I feel Nintendo should drop the price to $149. So few games even come out for it that are even worth a damn. Here's sort of the strange thing though. The video game market place is no longer cotrolled by hardcore fans like myself and the two other people that read this blog. It's all about the casual market now. They are calling the shots. All of these new Wii owners aren't even aware that the prices of consoles change. They have no idea about the pricing wars of the past like the $299 PS1 vs. the $399 Sega Saturn. The Wii has been out for three years now. It's not like it's this technologially advanced machine that is costing Nintendo a ton of cash to make. They could easily lower the price. Will they? I don't think so. Why should they? There are plenty of 7 year olds that don't have one yet. Why not take advantage of them too? I guess I'm angry because I remember a time once when Nintendo did the right thing. They cared about the quality of the product that was being put out (anyone pick up recent releases like Carnival Games or Party Babyz). I stood with them through the "Dark Ages" of the Nintendo64 and the Gamecube. They have turned on me. It's all about the almighty dollar now. I don't kid myself either. I know it's always been about the money but before I feel like it was less obvious. So this Holiday season don't expect any gifts from Nintendo like a nice price drop. They are having a hard time seeing the light over their giant piles of cash.

Posts About Nothing Vol. 1: The Febreze

So I was sitting on "the throne" the other day and I forgot to bring in some choice reading material with me. Damn. I hate that. I can't sit in there with nothing to read or look at. I mean let's be honest with each other here. When I go in there to do my day's thinking, I'm going to be in there for awhile. My go-to reading material is usually a magazine. The new Burton catalog maybe, a sound choice... I sat there. Now I'm annoyed. I came here to relax. I can't exactly get up and crawl on my hands and knees and find something, so I grab the next best thing. The Febreze. It's a desperation move, I know. But it kept my mind occupied while I finished my bidding and I got to read about how dangerous these pressurized cans are. In English and in Spanish. The febreze serves multiple purposes for me. Good reading material and covers any evidence of the crime that was just committed. But hey that's me. I'm just putting it out there.

-This scent is delicious by the way, Brazilian Carnaval.

-Yeah.

The Burton Catalog

Holy Crap! A new post! I know it's been forever. I've been busy... I guess "lazy" would be the more appropriate term to use there. So, the new Burton catalog is finally out. When I saw it I literally pooped a little in my pants. It's amazing. The catalog itself has like an embossed cover, the edges of the pages are gold, and it's even got a book mark. It's like a litte Bible. Well I say it's time to praise the Lord because the product this year is amazing. I love this year's men's board the Joystick sized 157cm, the CO2 EST binding in black, and the new Grail boot in purple. That's right purple. All of the product is so awesome. Once again Burton doesn't disappoint. Pick up the catalog even if you don't snowboard there's a ton of stuff you might dig from outerwear to underwear, socks, and even great bags for school.

A Little Video Game News

Final Fantay XIII. Are you as excited as I am? Okay so Square-Enix finally set a date...well for Japan at least. The next installment of this highly praised series will hit stores in Japan on Thursday, December 17. Awesome if you speak Japanese, right? As for me, I (and probably the four people who actually read this blog) don't speak Japanese and will have to wait, according to Square-Enix, another six to eight months. It will probaly be longer than that. I feel like it usually is but I could be wrong. Do I smell a June release. Summertime action. That's what I'm talkin' about. This is my most anticipated game of next year. Look out for it.

-This post is super excited about this game.

The Nissan 180sx

I know. I know. Not another car post. But I just had to. The Nissan 180sx or 89-93 240sx here in the States is by far my favorite car. This one is out of Japan and this is pretty much as good as it gets. Metallic purple color, low ride height, low offset wheels, great wheel fitmet, sleepy headlights, I mean you name this car has it. That's it. Now lets bow down to all its glory.

-I'm so stoked I don't have to work on Monday. Random much.

Shoe Game

So if you have yet to be aquainted then allow me to introduce you. This is the Nike Foamposite Pro in the pearl colorway. Now if you read our previous shoe post you know that this is our favorite shoe. Well this shoe and the Foamposite One, which is the original shoe and is almost the same minus the large Nike swoosh. This color was oiginally released in the late 90's maybe. I know for a fact they came out again in the early 2000's. So Nike decided to release them again. Back by popular demand. Wait... Wait... Before I get ahead of myself, I need to convey to you how popular this shoe is in the DC area. The DMV if you will (DC, Maryland, and Virginia). If you had to pick a mascot shoe to represent your city in a basketball game; this is the shoe. The thing is, Nike knows this. So what did they decide to do when they released this shoe again this past March? Yeah, Nike made it a House of Hoops exclusive. For those that don't know, House of Hoops is a joint venture between Nike and Footlocker. It's a shoe store dedicated to basketball shoes. Sounds awesome. And it is. The only problem is the closest HoH to DC is... you guessed it, NYC. So the shoe came and went and the whole DMV got screwed. So really the only way to get the shoe was to take a week off work or my favorite (heavy sarcasm), buy them from a reseller. So if you missed this shoe like I did now instead of paying the retail price of $190 you get to look foward to paying $500. Now I understand where Nike is coming from. It makes the shoe more special if its a limited release but I would say more than half of the shoes bought were resold for a profit and for the consumer there's nothing special about that. $500 for shoes, come on man. But next time Nike won't screw the whole DC area. They are opening a House of Hoops in Hyattsville, Md. Get some.

-This post was posted with the utmost respect for the shoe game.

The Z32

This car is a Nissan Z32 or 300zx. This model has been shelved by Nissan for many years now to make room for the the newer 350z and finally the 370z. Well I have to be honest here. I hate the new Z cars from Nissan. I want to like he 370z but I just can't. Every time I see one on the road I kind of get excited to see a car that's not a Scion TC or a Civic (no offense). Then the car passes me and I go from having my eyebrows perked up to being disappointed. It's so damn short and stubby (insert appropriate penis joke here). I actually prefer the stylings of the Altima coupe. I know right (insert frowny face here). But anyway the Z car that I do love is the 300zx. Long forgotten by Nissan and quite frankly forgotten by the whole tuning scene. Nissan released the 300zx in America from 1989 to 1996. It came naturally aspirated or twin-turbo. The obvious choice for me would be twin-turbo. The stock TT made 300hp. Not too shabby. Anyway I cannot figure out why I don't see more of this beautiful car especially from the tuning scene. Enough with the Civics already. I just love the rear end of this beast. Like the J-Lo of cars. So while the 300zx is not my favorite car, that title goes to the Nissan 180sx, this car is my number two. By the way this particular car in the photo was tuned by Pent Roof in Japan and makes 668hp. Holy freakin' cow.

A Sad Day for Anime

ADV films is gone. This is a sad day for me as I am a fan of anime and a loved what ADV did for anime in America. Well sort of. Okay this is kind of confusing so forgive me if it doesn't make that much sense. In 2007 ADV made a deal with Sojitz Corporation. The deal was that Sojitz would own 20% of ADV and ADV would own the rest. ADV would in return get loads of cash and then ADV and Sojitz set up the ARM corp., a company that would aquire the rights for anime that ADV would then release. Sounds sweet, right? Well not so much. For whatever reason they two companies couldn't get along. After only a year the deal fell apart. The relationship ended and ADV lost the rights to all the shows it had been releasing in the past year because those shows were licensed to the ARM corp. and not ADV. Well played Sojitz. Well played. But here's the bruiser. The crushing blow, if you will. Sojitz still owned 20% of ADV! So, I guess the only thing ADV felt they could do was to just break free. In the wake of all of this comes a plethora of new companies. SXION 23, AEsir, Seraphim Studios, and Valkyrie Media Partners have all shown up on the scene. And lets not forget the already established Sentai Filmworks. To make an absurly long winded blog short; I guess all that ADV is doing is moving everything to a few new companies they have set up to get away from the stranglehold of Sojitz. Maybe the ADV name is gone but everything else is still there. It still feels like the end of an era to me. I always hear people talk trash about ADV but they were by far my favorite publisher. They had a ton of good shows, great dubs, and the thinpak packaging was awesome. It just amazes me that you can be on top of the world and in just a couple years be gone. If Funimation didn't have Dragonball they would probably be in deep as well. I hate Funimation. Stupid name. Stupid logo. Ugh! In closing I hope all of this works out and we can get back to watching great anime from these new companies in the spirit of ADV.

Now go out and BUY some anime!
(Big up to ANN)
